Exchange studies in Europe

Subject specific exchange agreements (Erasmus+)

The IT Faculty currently has exchange agreements with 14 European universities within the Erasmus+ framework.

Exchange studies outside of Europe or to one of the Nordic countries

ERASMUS+ grant

The IT Faculty's subject specific agreements are all within the EU's Erasmus+ framework. This means that all students doing an exchange via these agreements will receive an EU grant based on the number of days you are studying at the partner university. This will be an additional grant also for students entitled to the Swedish CSN-scolarships. Read more about the Erasmus+ grant.

The European educational system

The structure of the academic year may vary between different countries and universities even thought the EU is working on harmonizing the educational systems within the Union.

Higher Education Credits (HECs / HPs)

The number of credits of a course at other European universities is often given in ECTS-credits (European Credit Transfer System).
1 ECTS credit = 1 Swedish Higher education credit (hec / hp)

NB: British universities usually have another credit system. We have an agreement with the University of Portsmouth, where 2 British credits = 1 ECTS/HECs.

Term dates

The term dates usually vary between countries and universities. It is essential that you as a student keep yourself informed about the term dates of your host university and whether these match with the terms here in Gothenburg.  Please note that in many southern European countries the autumn term wil start and end later than here in Sweden. The autumn term at German universities usually flows over into the start of the spring term here in Sweden and would make it difficult for you to resume your studies in study period 3. You will find more detailed information about each university's term dates via the links to the left or by contacting your international coordinator.
