Nobel Laureate Lecture: "The Frontiers of Fundamental Physics"

Join Nobel Laureate David J. Gross as he takes you to the frontier of fundamental physics among string theories, atomic nuclei and elemental particles.

Nobel Laureate in Physics 2004, David J. Gross, will speak at the University of Gothenburg on 8 December. The title of the lecture is "The Frontiers of Fundamental Physics". The lecture is held in cooperation with Chalmers University of Technology within the frame of Nobel Week Dialogue.

David J Gross received the Nobel Prize in Physics 2004. He shared the award with H. David Politzer and Frank Wilczek for the discovery of a remarkable characteristic of the strong force. The strong force is the force that dominates within the atomic nucleus and acts between the quarks within the proton and the neutron.


Their research demonstrated that the greater the distance between the quarks, the stronger the force and converse: when the quarks are really close the force is so weak that they behave almost as free particles. This phenomenon is called "asymptotic freedom".
