The research at the IT Faculty is carried out by the two departments:

The IT Faculty has a strong collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology, where the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering is common between University of Gothenburg and Chalmers – which creates a dynamic milieu for cross disciplinary research within the field of IT.

The research at the Department of Applied Information Technology focuses on areas as digital innovation, blockchain, IT and learning, social media, e-health, cognitive science, communication, Internet of Things, digital management, and artificial intelligence.

At the Department of Computer Science and Engineering the  research includes areas as algorithms, artificial intelligence, computer architecture, computer security, distributed systems, electronics design, formal methods, logic, networking, software technology, software engineering, language technology and reliable computer systems.

The research at the departments is often conducted in close cooperation with industry. Cooperation takes place through joint projects, common industrial graduate students, and adjunct professors from industry.

The IT Faculty also collaborates with many other research areas at University of Gothenburg and at Chalmers University of Technology.
