Robotic Process Automation

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is increasingly introduced in the public sector. The project focus is on decision-making concerning applications for social aid (e.g. social assistance under the Social Services Act). The aim is to provide knowledge about values among involved actors, as well as relationships between humans and technology in digitalization in social services as a means to secure a sustainable and law-proof social service.

Machine Intelligence and Algorithmic Agents

This project aims at a radical reframing of past conceptualizations of machine intelligence and agency. It proposes a novel algorithmic agency perspective that centre around three key characteristics: algorithmic interpretation, data generativity, and input translation.

Platform society

Studies of the growing emergence of digital sharing platforms and how they challenge societal institutions. A platform is a digital intermediary with low transaction costs for coordinating peer-to-peer exchanges of tangible and intangible goods, be they capital, labour, goods or information. At the heart of the platforms lie their algorithms and huge data sets about user behaviour, as the basis for an increasing degree of automated and data driven decision making.

Studies of different types of surveillance practices. Beside the huge bulk of information shared on social media, there is a growing amount of digital surveillance devices, such as stationary surveillance systems, body-worn cameras, drones and a variety of sensors. With the smartphone, surveillance is instant in every person’s hand. The development in algorithms and artificial intelligence, advances also the analytical step in surveillance, for example by face and motion recognition.
